Greetings ,

The pulse of Indiana has been on affordability. With high gas prices because of this administration's ignorant (not just) war, with grocery prices leaving vulnerable families hungry, and with electricity bills crossing over to insane, it seems the mainline parties seem to have discovered the word for the first time. The Indiana Green Party has been speaking affordability for Hoosiers for over 25 years. We have spoken at the state house, in city halls and at the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission advocating for our Hoosier families across the state.

Recently, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission has been making a listening tour of Indiana. A political breaker initiated by the Governor to stall the wave of discontent that is rising with the higher prices. For years the administration and its political appointed commissions have been ignoring the voices of the people who have spoken at countless public hearings, only hearing the voices of the corporate lobbyist from the utilities. These have been a waste of time - the Indiana Utility Regulatory doesn't need to be traveling around the state - they need to be in Indianapolis fixing the problem they created. Your Indiana Green Party will continue to speak affordability for Hoosiers and we will do it long after the duopoly has slid back into the corporate pocketbooks.

Being involved with the Indiana Green Party is a commitment to affordability for all our communities not just today but the future. Join us in making a Hoosier difference as we work hard at Making Indiana the Crossroads of Green America.

Message from your Indiana Green Party Chair

To fellow Greens, like-minded allies and comrades alike:

With the excessive amount of mudslinging, out of state campaign ads, and the same stale politics that I'm sure people are now experiencing in this major party primary election, you're probably wondering: Are there any other options out there besides this?

We just want to let you know that, yes, there IS other options that are presently organizing, collecting signatures for their party's -- or independent -- candidates, pursuing the insurmountable task of getting on the ballot in Indiana for the November 3 general election.

Of course, I do acknowledge there's going to be MAJOR differences with other 3rd parties, dealing with different ideologies, platforms, organizing tactics and those running as independents outside of the 2-headed duopoly parties, but having to talked to several people over the years outside the Green Party, I've found there is some common ground in the fight over ballot access, issues that NEVER get discussed by the major parties, how to reform the terrible election system, etc.

Among those one may consider are the Socialist Party of Indiana, the Indiana affiliate of the Justice for All Party, the American Solidarity Party, and the Libertarian Party of Indiana [the latter already having ballot access] and various independents that one can eventually find here. The Indiana Green Party wishes all of you well in this quagmire known as Indiana election law, and we'll be willing to assist your party in any capacity [whether signing your petitions, reforming them post-election, so on and so forth].

As for what's going on in the Indiana Green Party, due to the amount of burnout we had after the 2024 ballot drive [that I'm sure many of you are familiar with (LINK)], for now we won't be running an Indiana Secretary of State candidate in 2026 and is instead going to focus on running local races in the midterm [if interested, please check out some resources here and here], with the intent of reforming ballot access after the election and hopefully focus on 2030.

Take care and hope to hear from you soon. Live Green, vote Green

Silver Anniversary Year for
the Indiana Green Party

Would you walk across Indiana for Ballot Access for Greens? On Saturday, April 28, 2006, Indiana Green Party member, Jim Coplen (LaPorte County) started just that. Jim began his walk over the length of Indiana in order to ask for petition signatures and to inform Hoosier voters about the ballot access requirements for third parties in the state.

The focus of Jim's walk was to gather signatures for Bill Stant's campaign for Indiana Secretary of State. It began at 9:00am from the Lincoln Memorial, across from Lincoln State Park, in the southern end of the state. His first scheduled stop at Terre Haute was to talk to Vigo County Greens about what it takes to create a real democracy and how they can help.

While a walk across Indiana might seem an impossible task, Jim was no stranger to long hikes. He was the author of The Wild Birds' Song a memoir of his 1995 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail from north to south. Jim also wrote Glendora: A Life Interrupted based on the diaries kept by a patient at a Tuberculosis sanitarium in Indiana for 33 months in the 1950’s. During his time with the Green Party Jim also served as Indiana State Party Co-Chair as well as a Co-Chair of the Green Party US.

Our local Greens are still walking neighbors collecting signatures as we continue that journey towards ballot access. Discover more of our rich history on the new History page of our website. Check it out. As this is an emerging document of our impact in Indiana if you have any of our history, minutes, pictures or reflections help us to fill in the gaps and please send them to us.

You can also share in our yearlong celebration of our movement by making a special contribution today to the Indiana Green Party. Your support will help us to continue to make history here in the Hoosier State.

Illinois Greens Ballot Petitioning

Our Greens in the Land of Lincoln to the west are in the race to ballot access. The Illinois Green Party is working hard to get their slate of statewide candidates on their November ballot. To do so they have a short window until May 26th to get 25,000 signatures of Illinois registered voters. Some of our Indiana Greens will be grabbing their clipboards and crossing the border to answer their call for help.

If you are in the 10 counties on the boarder (or fancy a drive) consider crossing over to Illinois this No Kings Day, Saturday March 28th to march for our democracy and at the same time work to expand it in Illinois. Of course you can go as often as you like - just get as many as possible by May 26th. To find our more check out the Illinois Green Party Petitioning Guide where you can download and print the petition.

They do things differently in Illinois so note that you will need to get the sheets you collect notarized at the bottom of each page before sending them to the organizers at the Illinois Green Party. They are clarifying for us if that can be an Indiana notary. If you would like to coordinate with other Indiana Greens, email us or contact us on our website.

While we are plugging our western boarder friends, check out the Illinois Green Party podcast Green Livestream on YouTube. Check it out and as the kids say click that subscribe button. https://www.youtube.com/@greenlivestreamilgp
