SkywolfIn Memory of Skywolf Neal Smith

This week the progressive community of Indiana lost a long time advocate and organizer. Skywolf Neal Smith. had been an activist in one cause or another since 1968. Since 1972, his main focus has been on Cannabis issues and he had served the Indiana Chapter for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (INORML) as Vice Chairman (1999 ?? 2010) and as Chairman (2010 ??2016, 2017 ?? 2019). He was the Chairman Emeritus and Political Director of that organization.

In 2001, Skywolf co-founded the Indiana Green Party and in 2002, the Marion County Green Party. He have also served as an Activist Member and Union Steward for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW 700) during my employment at Kroger, Inc.

Skywolf attended Indiana University, graduating in 1975 with a Double Major in Journalism and Sociology. He worked as a journalist, mostly in broadcast news for 13 years and was adept in video and still photography.

In remembrance of Skywolf, our Party Chair Pluto Brand had these remarks. "My friend Skywolf Neal Smith has left. He won't be gone but he won't be here. The organizations and friendships he built are rock solid. I wish I could have gone Indy to say goodbye but we didn't have that kind of time left. Skywolf is an activist at heart in the highest degree. He stood up against wrongs and got in good trouble for everyone. In the 60's Skywolf was part of the weathermen, "cause he knows which way the wind blows". Skywolf worked hard to create the Cannabis Caucus for the Indiana Green Party. Skywolf was one of the founders of the Indiana Green Party and what became the Circle City Greens. I could chat and listen to Skywolf for hours and I believe we have chatted that long many times. His life stories he told would make you giggle. Skywolf is a man of honor and often stood up for the little guy. I know he stood by my side when I needed a friend. He taught me so much I appreciate him for that. Neal Smith came into this world bringing nothing but love and will leave it taking nothing but love with him. Eyes open, no fear, happy peaceful travels my friend. Thank you for your many loving gifts to this world."
