| Visitor, the Indiana Green Party pushed hard against the hardest Ballot Access requirements in the United States. By July 1st over 55,000 signatures were submitted to county elections offices all across the state. Then we waited, and waited, made phone calls "they are not done", more waiting, more phone calls "just don't know because they are all still in a stack" before driving back all around the state to pick up all the signature sheets in order deliever them by hand to the Indiana Elections Division in Indianapolis by the deadline. The county election officials were brutal in invaliding signatures of Hoosiers who only want to have a third-party, anti-war, pro-environment candidate on this November's ballot and redlined out over half of your signatures. The Indiana Green Party and the Dr. Jill Stein campaign have been working diligently reviewing the thousands of certified nominations by signatures sheets. Also, all the issues that were experienced with the county election officials have been documented. These are being completed as decisions about the next steps towards ballot access are bing considered. The deadline for the Stein campaign to challenge the determination of the Secretary of State is August 25th. If a challenge is submitted then the Indiana Elections Commission will hear the challenge meaning four political appointees will vote wether or not Jill Stein will be on the November ballot. The Indiana Green Party is the Party for the 55,000 Hoosiers who expressed their Green values by signing archaic paper petitions. We are not the mainline parties that delegates democracy to four political appointees as the arbitrators of who is on the ballot and who is not. As the Party of the People we are committed to keep striving for Ballot Access in Indiana to get Green Hoosiers on every ballot in Indiana. Consider supporting our efforts across our state by joining our local movement. |

By mid July we were so exhausted that we canceled our July gathering so we could have some rest and relaxation. We have been meeting with the Hobart Sustainability Commission on visioning a new 3-mile dedicated bike trail from Hobart's Festival Park to Three Rivers County Park. The NWI Green Party has been pestering the Indiana Department of Environmental Management on releasing copies of permits issued under Indiana Rule 327 IAC 15-6 - Storm Water Discharges Exposed to Industrial Activity. This rule seems to by-pass Stormwater regulations and allow in practice the discharge of untreated stormwater from the steel working industry into Lake Michigan. Inconveniently IDEM does not provide documents under this administrative Rule for public review on the Virtual File Cabinet. The NWI Green Party submitted a Freedom of Information Request four months ago, the documents still have not be provided. Our patience is growing thin. The Northwest Indiana Green Party will gather for some strategizing on Sunday, August 18th at 2:00pm. We are returning to one of our favorite spots Sip Coffeehouse in downtown Hobart. Join us at 310 Main Street, Hobart for this monthly Green networking and planning. |
