George Wolfe Announces Candidacy for Indiana Secretary of State on the Green Party Ticket
March 5, 2018
INDIANA (Indianapolis) – On March 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Dr. George Wolfe, Professor Emeritus at Ball State University, will publicly announce his candidacy for Secretary of State in the 2018 November election. The event will take place at the Indiana Statehouse, South Atrium, Second Floor, 200 West Washington Street in Indianapolis and is open to the public and kid friendly.
During his 32 years of teaching at the university, Professor Wolfe served as Director of the Ball State University Center for Peace and Conflict Studies from 2002 to 2006, and he was the center’s Outreach Coordinator from 2006 to 2014.
Dr. Wolfe has articulated a plan to end gerrymandering and voter suppression tactics in the state of Indiana, dramatically increase voter participation, establish election-day as a state-wide holiday, provide same-day voter registration, expand early voting opportunities, and take redistricting out of the hands of politicians by establishing a nonpartisan citizen’s redistricting commission. He also pledges to fight against scams that target senior citizens, and to legally challenge legislation that allows businesses to discriminate against Hoosiers who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
George will pressure lawmakers to pass a hate crimes bill and provide more tax incentives to businesses that make use of solar, wind, and other green energy sources. He believes public colleges and universities in Indiana should offer in-state tuition to DACA students. Furthermore, he supports raising the minimum wage and rewarding businesses that pay higher than minimum wage
George will preserve and promote preventative health care initiatives such as free vaccines and yearly wellness exams, and he supports the legalization of medical marijuana. He will provide support for businesses that help young working parents with the cost of child daycare, and pressure lawmakers to provide more support for child welfare agencies due to the opioid drug crisis. He will also institute an educational program on the U.S. Constitution for Hoosier citizens, and insist on de-escalation training for community police
