The Green New Deal is a four part program for moving America quickly out of crisis into a secure, sustainable future. Inspired by the New Deal programs that helped us out of the Great Depression of the 1930s, the Green New Deal will provide similar relief and create an economy that makes our communities sustainable, healthy, and just.

The Indiana Green Party supports the efforts and platform laid out by national at:

See the image below for a comparison of the Green Party’s “Green New Deal” versus the recent Democratic Party’s version.  It’s time for a full Green transformation of our energy systems, economy, and more. We need to build solutions now, not compromise.

Only the Green Party’s Green New Deal makes a crash program for 100% clean energy by 2030 the economic stimulus in a broader economic program to meet everyone’s basic needs on an ecologically sustainable basis. It would finally enact the economic bill of rights advocated by the best of the original New Dealers, including the right to living-wage job, an income above poverty, decent housing, comprehensive health care, and a good education. It would convert the energy industry and banking into public utilities so we have the democratic power and financing to carry through a rapid energy transition.

Only the Green Party’s Green New Deal calls for ending wars for oil from the Middle East to Venezuela. We want deep cuts in military spending to help fund human needs and a just transition to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2030. We want the U.S. to lead by example and by aid in a global Green New Deal to avert climate disaster and end global poverty. It is cheaper – and in the interests of ordinary people if not the global corporations – to be the world’s humanitarian superpower instead of the world’s policeman for global capitalism.

Our voice must be heard at this crucial time when the Green New Deal is at the center of public debate and social movements.
